We strive to offer the most up-to-date and scientifically proven information about CBD (cannabidiol), and the many ways to use this compound and others from the hemp plant to regulate the body for maximum performance and functionality. Whether you’re a dedicated fitness enthusiast or someone looking to balance your endocannabinoid system, CBD can make for the perfect addition to your daily routine. Now, let’s talk all about what makes this hemp-derived compound so unique, and how to utilize it to really give your mind and body a boost.

What is CBD and How Does it Work?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a naturally occurring compound found in the resinous flower of cannabis, a plant with a rich history as a medicine going back thousands of years. Today the therapeutic properties of CBD are being tested and confirmed by scientists and doctors around the world. A safe, non-addictive substance, CBD is one of more than a hundred “phytocannabinoids,” which are unique to cannabis and endow the plant with its robust therapeutic profile.

CBD is closely related to another important medicinally active phytocannabinoid: tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the compound that causes the high that cannabis is famous for. These are the two components of cannabis that have been most studied by scientists.

Both CBD and THC have significant therapeutic attributes. But unlike THC, CBD does not make a person feel “stoned” or intoxicated. That’s because CBD and THC act in different ways on different receptors in the brain and body.

CBD’s therapeutic potency (as well as non-intoxicating) and easy usage makes it an appealing option for those who are cautious about trying cannabis for the first time.

How CBD Works
CBD works by interacting with a vast array of cannabinoid receptors that make up the endocannabinoid system (ECS). Your ECS controls stress levels, maintains your sleep schedule, manages pain perception, reduces the anti-inflammatory response, regulates the immune system, balances your mood and more. It is constantly working to keep your body in homeostasis, which is its optimal state.

What is Homeostasis? Homeostasis is biological balance in your body’s natural rhythms. Frequently referred to as equilibrium in your system, homeostasis has a crucial impact on your overall wellbeing. New research is emerging exploring the link between homeostasis and our physical, mental and emotional health. People who take CBD are supporting their ECS and in turn, keeping their bodies in balance.

What Happens when You are Not in Homeostasis?
When you are not in homeostasis, your body is simply unable to perform at its best. This can result in undue stress, irritability, sleeplessness, soreness, aches, pains and more. In extreme circumstances, it can lead to disease and cellular malfunction.

The Endocannabinoid System (ECS)

The ECS is a biochemical communication system throughout the human body, which has the job of regulating our physiology, mood and everyday functions. CBD communicates with every bodily system, including the central nervous system, immune system and organs through a self-regulating network of cannabinoid receptors.

There are two types of cannabinoid receptors – CB1 and CB2 – which are located on the body’s cells. Cannabinoids are designed to stimulate the cannabinoid receptors, which in turn activates the receiving neurons into action.

They pass along the massage and carry out a multitude of cellular responses that contribute to bodily homeostasis.

CB1 receptors are primarily located on the nerve cells of the brain, spinal cord and overall central nervous system. They have been found to play a role in memory processing, motor regulation, pain sensitivity, mood and sleep. Then, there are CB2 receptors, which are found in the immune system and its associated structures. When activated through cannabinoid intake, they stimulate a response to fight inflammation, which can reduce discomfort and minimize tissue damage caused by overexertion or injury.

Benefits of CBD

CBD has a multitude of positive effects, including a unique ability to promote a sense of calm and a reduction in stress. It helps to balance your mood. The most widely known benefit of CBD is that it supports overall wellbeing in the body and mind in a way that is gentle, holistic and all-natural. Now, you can understand why so many people use it to maintain a healthier lifestyle!

There is a wealth of information out there when it comes to the unique benefits of CBD, along with personal testimonials and scientific research papers. However, as manufacturers in a regulated hemp industry, there are a lot of restrictions as to what we can legally say when it comes to its individual therapeutic properties.

What we can say is that CBD has been found to:

  • Promote relaxation and calm
  • Lift the mood
  • Reduce minor discomfort
  • Improve sleep
  • Support exercise as well as the recovery process

And there are many ways to consume it based on one’s personal preferences, making it a very versatile compound.

What’s the Difference?

Full-spectrum CBD Products are made with the full range of cannabinoids and other beneficial compounds found in the hemp plant, including up to 0.3% THC (the federally legal limit). Including other cannabinoids with CBD causes the entourage effect, which means the CBD can work better, thus be more effective. Since there is a trace amount of THC in full-spectrum products, there is a chance to test positive on a drug test.

Broad-spectrum CBD Products are made with a broad range of cannabinoids and other beneficial compounds found in the hemp plant but contain essentially 0.00% THC. Broad spectrum products still have the entourage effect.

CBD isolate products contain only CBD that has been isolated from all the other compounds in hemp. The extraction process used removes all other cannabinoids including THC, as well as terpenes and waxes, for a pure form of cannabidiol. Muscle MX does not offer any isolate products, as we believe that the entourage effect of hemp compounds is the most effective way to reap the benefits that the plant has to offer.

What are Cannabis Terpenes?

Terpenes are what you smell and taste when you handle a hemp product and understanding how they work will deepen your appreciation for cannabis.

Secreted from the same glands that give us cannabinoids like CBD and THC, terpenes are aromatic oils that color cannabis strains with distinctive flavors like citrus, berry, mint and pine.

Terpenes may play a key role in differentiating the effects of various cannabis strains. Some terpenes may promote relaxation and stress relief, while others could potentially boost focus and acuity.

FDA REGULATIONS ON CBD

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) currently prohibits all manufacturers of CBD products from making any claims about their potential to treat specific health conditions. Health claims are only permitted when approved by the FDA and based on accepted clinical trials. Because CBD is still new to the market, many clinical trials are still in process.

Trust us – we wish we could say a lot more about the specific potentials of CBD, because we are incredibly proud of our role in the hemp industry. We hear stories from customers all over the country about how our products have changed their lives, enabling healthier and more functional lifestyles.

IS ALL CBD THE SAME

With more than 3,000 brands selling CBD across the country, it is easy to think that all CBD is created equally. This is untrue.

Proper formulation techniques and the use of pure ingredients have a big impact on the quality of a CBD product.

Muscle MX has always made product quality our number one priority. We proudly lead the industry in self-regulation through our internal processes, third-party lab-testing, consumer transparency and more, setting the gold standard for the hemp market.

Unfortunately, the excitement surrounding CBD has led to a flood of unreliable products on the market. So, how can you know you are getting the best of the best? Well, one thing we can promise is that all of the products at Muscle MX are made with high standards for quality and purity and are fully compliant with federal laws and regulations. But, beyond that, there are some telltale signs that a CBD product has the quality level you’re seeking out.

Lab reports: Third-party testing is a critical component of maintaining a CBD business, and a company should provide lab reports to consumers via their website, as they show objective information pertaining to purity levels, chemical breakdown and more.

Ingredients lists: Companies should provide complete lists of the ingredients that they use in all of their formulas. Remember that when you consume a CBD product, you’re not just consuming CBD alone: there are other ingredients that go into the formula, regardless of the delivery method. Organic, natural products are regarded as superior to synthetic ingredients and chemical additives.

Transparency: Nowadays, CBD companies really need to strive to offer transparency to customers, with a “seed to sale” approach that offers information pertaining to the way in which the hemp is sourced, how it’s extracted and how products are formulated to ensure maximum safety and quality levels.

HOW DO I PICK THE RIGHT PRODUCT?

What’s the “right” amount of CBD to take?

How often should I Take it?

Which delivery system (product type) should I use?

Start with a low dose of CBD as a beginner and increase it gradually as needed and tolerated. Everyone’s endocannabinoid system is unique, and some people tolerate higher levels than others. Taking too much CBD will not get you high, but it could make you feel sleepy.

To make the dosing process easy, simply refer to the label on the packaging, which offers a suggested amount per dosage.

Think of the process as that of introducing a new supplement to the body. Bear in mind that everyone is different; we all must experiment to find the dosing regimen that works for us. While some may feel instant results, it is recommended to use take CBD daily for maximum effectiveness, and then increasing or decreasing how much they use daily to eventually achieve the desired effects.

We also encourage you to try different products for variations in taste and delivery methods to determine which formula works best for you. Make sure that you can understand the labeling on your CBD products to know what is inside and how best to use it.

Please contact your healthcare professional if you need further information about using CBD, or more personalized instructions when it comes to consuming it. As we are not a medical facility, we are not authorized to provide personal medical advice to customers.
